Australian journalist suspended after Adele admitted he didn’t listen to her album during an interview

Whew! Matt Doran was all smiles when he landed in London for an exclusive interview with Adele earlier this month, but found himself in a hot seat after admitting he wasn’t ready to sit down.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Channel 7 reporter Matt Doran has been suspended for two weeks after admitting to Adele that he did not listen to her latest album during an interview with her. Doran flew from Sydney to London on November 4 for the exclusive interview, which Adele reportedly left after he abused her.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Doran did not ask any questions about Adele’s new album during the interview, and admitted to the singer that he hadn’t heard of it after she brought up his thoughts on the project.

The network reportedly spent $1 million on the package, including broadcast rights to an interview and one-night-only concert for Oprah Winfrey. Although Adele’s interview was taped, it was reported that her brand prohibited Channel Seven from broadcasting any of it.

Doran told The Australian he pleaded guilty and categorically apologized after the incident.

“When I sat down to meet Adele, I was absolutely unaware that I had received via email a preview of her unreleased album,” he said. “I have since found out that it was sent to me as an ‘e-card’ link, which I somehow missed upon landing in London.”

After facing some backlash from fellow journalists who accused him of “contempt” for Adele, Doran insisted the comment was just a mistake.

“It was an oversight but not a willful disdain,” Doran said. “This is the most important email I have ever missed.” I am confused. She has pleaded with Sony to release the interview.”
