Roommates, the 2021 American Music Awards brought out some of the music industry’s biggest and brightest—and some of your favorites certainly didn’t disappoint! Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion walked away from several American Music Awards making them the biggest winners of the night, Chloe Bailey took her performance of “Have Mercy” to a new level and Cardi B proved to be a regular award winner in the future. .
Several of the first winners of the 2021 American Music Awards were in the R&B and Hip Hop categories with Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion both achieving impressive success. Doja Cat has won three American Music Awards for Favorite R&B Artist, Favorite R&B Album and Collaboration of the Year. Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion won awards for Best Hip Hop Artist, Favorite Hip Hop Album, and Favorite Popular Song.
One of the most awaited performances of the night was from Chloe Bailey, who performed her lead single ‘Have Mercy’ with a new twist featuring a gradual team meltdown at the end. Prior to this, chart-topping number one Silk Sonic opened the show with an awards show premiere of their latest single Smokin’ Out The Window.
There were also some funny moments that happened during the American Music Awards, courtesy of presenter Cardi B. From the energetic, fresh opening monologue to the hilarious exchange with JoJo Siwa, Cardi has been around the night.
A sad moment occurred during the show when Brandi spoke about the Astroworld tragedy and asked everyone to continue to keep the victims in their prayers.
